Cajun Hot Honey Shrimp

A spicy and sweet dish that brings the flavors of Louisiana to your table, perfect for cozy dinners or lively gatherings.

  • lbs raw jumbo shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1½ tbsp Cajun seasoning
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 4 tbsp salted butter
  • 34 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh thyme (or 2 tsp dried)
  • Zest and juice of 1 lemon
  • ¼ cup honey
  • 2 tbsp salted butter
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper
  • ½ tsp chili powder
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika
  • Kosher salt, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prep the shrimp by ensuring they are peeled and deveined. Rinse under cold water and pat dry.
  2. Season the shrimp with Cajun seasoning, black pepper, and salt. Marinate for 15 minutes if possible.
  3. Sauté the minced garlic in olive oil over medium-high heat until fragrant.
  4. Cook the shrimp in a single layer for 2-3 minutes on one side until pink, then flip and add 4 tablespoons of butter to finish cooking.
  5. Add honey, lemon zest, and juice. Simmer for another minute.
  6. Finish with fresh thyme and the remaining butter.
  7. Adjust seasoning to taste, balancing sweet, spicy, and salty flavors.

Notes

Serve the shrimp over rice, grits, or in a salad. Garnish with flaky sea salt and chopped parsley.
