  • 68 cups apples (mix of sweet and tart, like Granny Smith and Honeycrisp)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (or brown sugar for a caramel note)
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch (or arrowroot powder)
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup oats
  • 1/2 cup cold butter
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Peel, core, and slice apples into thin wedges.
  3. Mix the sliced apples, sugar, and cornstarch in a bowl until well coated.
  4. Prepare a baking dish by greasing it with butter and pour the apple mixture into it.
  5. Combine flour, oats, and salt in another bowl; cut in cold butter until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  6. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apple mixture.
  7. Bake for about 45-55 minutes until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbly.
  8. Cool for a few minutes before serving warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

Add cinnamon or nutmeg for extra warmth, or mix in nuts for added crunch. Can be prepped ahead of time by refrigerating the filling.
