Croustade aux Pommes

A delightful French dessert featuring baked apples with a crunchy crumble topping, capturing warm nostalgic memories.

  • 4 cups apples, peeled and sliced
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup walnuts (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Toss sliced apples with 1/4 cup of the brown sugar and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Let sit for 10 minutes.
  3. Combine flour, rolled oats, remaining brown sugar, salt, and melted butter in a bowl. Mix until crumbly.
  4. Grease a 9-inch pie dish and spread the apple mixture evenly.
  5. Spread the crumble topping over the apples.
  6. Bake for 35-40 minutes until the topping is golden and the apples are bubbling.
  7. Cool for 10-15 minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Feel free to customize with spices or other fruits.
