Homemade Fig Jam

A delightful homemade fig jam that brings back sweet memories of family breakfasts and cozy kitchens.

  • 1¼ cups granulated sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • ½ teaspoon whole black peppercorns
  • 1 cinnamon stick

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Figs: Wash the figs gently under cold water, pat dry, trim off stems, and chop into quarters.
  2. Combine Ingredients: In a large pot, mix chopped figs, sugar, salt, lemon juice, black peppercorns, and cinnamon stick.
  3. Bring to a Simmer: Heat over medium, stirring until sugar dissolves, then reduce heat and let cook.
  4. Cook Down the Jam: Simmer for about 30-40 minutes until thickened, mashing figs for a smoother texture if desired.
  5. Jar the Jam: Remove the cinnamon stick and peppercorns, then carefully pour the jam into sterilized jars.
  6. Cool and Enjoy: Allow jars to cool completely at room temperature before using.
