A hearty beef stew simmered in a fragrant, spiced sauce, served over fluffy basmati rice for ultimate comfort.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 800 g beef (chuck or beef cheek) cut into cubes
  • 2 medium onions, chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 beef broth cube
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 400 ml hot water
  • 300 g cooked basmati rice (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the beef: Season your beef cubes with salt and pepper.
  2. Sear the beef: Heat the vegetable oil in a large Dutch oven or pot over medium-high heat. Add the beef in batches and sear until browned. Set aside.
  3. Sauté the onions and garlic: In the same pot, add the chopped onions and sauté for about 5 minutes. Then add the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  4. Add tomato paste and spices: Stir in the tomato paste, chili powder, and smoked paprika. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Get saucy: Return the browned beef to the pot. Crumble the broth cube and pour in the hot water. Stir gently to combine.
  6. Simmer: Bring to a gentle boil, reduce to low heat, cover, and let simmer for about 120-180 minutes.
  7. Taste your dish towards the end to adjust seasoning and spice levels.
  8. Crown with rice: Serve the beef stew over cooked basmati rice.
